SPIRITUAL CEREMONY
GREETINGS:

____and____, I greet you. To our assembled guests, on behalf of  ____and____, I welcome you.

We welcome you this moment in your lives and to the place you have come to in each other's hearts.

We join with you on this day, as you commit before God and humanity, that from this point forward you shall live as one.

I remind all of our guests that you have been invited here for a holy purpose, not just to witness,

but to participate fully with your thoughts and prayers, asking God to bless this couple and their married life.

They are here to proclaim their commitment to each other.

Together we all thank God who brought them together and ask Him always to guide their way.

INVOCATION:

____and____, "Together in marriage your love will bring out the best in each other.

You will learn from each other and grow from your differences.

You will be two individuals, living your own lives with each other as one.

Together in marriage you will be stronger, more sensitive, more aware, more knowing and more
at peace than you are individually.

You will be better people.

Together in marriage your love will give understanding to all that you do because you will share your ideas, goals, and frustrations.

Together in marriage you will be able to achieve all that you want in life."  (Susan Polis Scutz)

Preserve sacredly the privacies of your home, your married state and your heart.

With mutual help build your quiet world.

Let moments of alienation, if they occur, be healed at once.

To each other confess and all will come out right.

Never let the morrow's sun still find you at variance. Renew and renew your vow.

It is God's will that in your love you might each find within yourself a greater sense of who you are meant to be.

You are asked by God to see the good in each other, to accept each other for who you are, that you might be healed and made strong.

This is so God's purpose shall be accomplished in this relationship.

May you create, with God, a piece of heaven on earth.

Into a darkened world the Lord has sent your love for one another and accomplishes between you, the miracle that will heal us all.

From this point forward the needs of the husband and the needs of the wife shall have equal priority.

You shall not be as two conflicting or competing forces, but rather the energies of you lives shall blend into harmony and oneness through the grace of God.

The angels shall dance between you, and they will rejoice in the dance of life you do together.

EXCHANGE OF RINGS:

The wedding ring is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual union.

The ring is a symbol of the commitment you are making to each other. Your rings are sacred circles.

A circle is the symbol of wholeness, peace, and unity.  As circles, your rings have no beginning and no ending.

They are the symbols of this growing relationship you have come here to celebrate and confirm.

You wear them with the blessing that you have a partner in life and that you are each other's life partner.

May I have the rings please.

Dear Lord, please bless these rings that are given today as token of the everlasting love between this couple.

May the presence of these rings be a constant reminder of the vows they have made together.

In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

____,as a sign of your love and faithfulness place the ring on ____'s finger and repeat after me:

With this ring I thee wed, and with all that I am, I honor thee.

From this day forward you shall not walk alone.

With this ring I give you my heart for I have no greater gift to give.

(Repeated for both Bride and Groom)

WEDDING BLESSING:

Dear God, please bless this couple. May their love be nurtured by You, always and forever.

May this marriage be held in Your hands. We dedicate this love to you. May it serve Your purpose.

May this man grow strong in the arms of this woman.

May this woman grow glorious in the love of this man.

May the earth be brought closer to heaven through this love.

Guide them in their journey of marriage. Amen

As God has blessed your marriage, He has taken all that constitutes ____,

and all that makes up ____, and fitted them together into a totally new entity.

The qualities of both of you are not lost, they are merged.

The weaknesses of neither will evaporate but they will be married to the strengths of the other.

____will not stop being____, just as ____will still be herself.

But together you are now something entirely different.

One will be strong where the other may not. That strength will now become equal parts of both.

This change doesn't come easily. Changes seldom do. But love will find a way.

And as you discover that way together, never forget that you are best friends...

best friends that kiss.

"____and____, may this marriage be your sanctuary, your haven from worldly  pain.

"Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now you shall feel no cold for each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now you will feel no loneliness, for each of you will be companionship to the other.

Now you are two persons, but there is only one life between you.

May beauty surround you both in the journey ahead, and throughout all the years.

May happiness be your companion and your days together be good and long upon the earth."

"Treat yourselves and each other with respect and remind yourselves often what brought you together.

Give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness, and kindness that your connection deserves.

When frustration, difficulty, and fear assail you, as they threaten all relationships at one time or another, remember to focus on what is right between you, not only on the part which seems wrong.

In this way, you can ride out the storms when clouds hide the face of the sun in your lives, remembering that even if you lose sight of it for a moment, the sun is still there.

And if each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight."
(Blessing of the Apaches)
